NEW! Order your Abstract Online
You can now order an Alberta Driver Abstract online if you have a verified MyAlberta Digital ID (MADI) account). If you do not have one, you can create a MADI account here for free. You will need to wait until the verification code is mailed to the address on your Alberta Driver’s Licence before you can use your MADI.
The service is available only between 6 am and 10 pm. If you process a request outside of these hours, the download will be available when the system opens at 6 am. The cost to order online is $23.10. The abstract will be available as a digital download – no paper copy will be mailed to you.
What is an Alberta Driver Abstract?
A driver abstract is a printed summary of a person’s driving record in Alberta, including merit and demerit points, convictions and suspensions. It’s kind of like a academic transcript, but for driving. Please note: A drivers abstract does NOT show an individual’s driving experience or the date first licensed.
The release of information from a driver abstract is regulated by the Access to Motor Vehicle Information Regulation (AMVIR). This means that we can only provide the abstract to you, to an individual to whom you have provided consent or to an organization which has an AMVIR agreement and has received consent from you to request the information.
You will need to select either a Standard Driver Abstract (SDA) or a Commercial Driver Abstract (SDA). You will also need to tell your agent if you require 3 years, 5 years or 10 years. If you are requesting a Driver Abstract for Employment or Insurance reasons, please check with the employer or broker to determine which type of abstract you need. Once we print the abstract, we are unable to print another one without charging a new fee.
Standard Driver Abstract
A Standard Driver Abstract provides information about:
- driver’s name, address, date of birth and MVID
- driver’s appearance (height, weight, sex, etc.)
- driver’s operator number, issue date and expiration date
- current class (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 GDL or non-GDL)
- status of the drivers licence
- conviction information
- demerit points
- suspensions
Commercial Driver Abstract
A Commercial Driver Abstract provides most of the same information as the Standard Driver Abstract plus information about Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) inspections.
The commercial abstract does not include information about the driver’s appearance.
Request Your Abstract In Person in Northeast Calgary
The simplest way to get an abstract is to visit East Calgary Registry in person. The cost to order an Alberta Driver Abstract in our office is $28. We print the Driver Abstract in our office, so you will leave with your abstract. We are unable to print more than one copy per request.
When you arrive to the Registry, we will need you to fill out a Request for Personal Driving and Motor Vehicle Information form. We provide the form here for your reference, but please note that it will need to be signed and witnessed in our office.
Please note that you will have to tell us whether you want a SDA or CDA (see above) – if you are requesting the abstract for employment purposes, you should ask you employer which type is required. You will also need to tell us if you want a 3, 5, or 10 year abstract.
Authorize a Third Party to Request Your Abstract
If you cannot attend the Registry in person, you can authorize another individual to do so on your behalf. That person will need to show valid identification (Alberta driver’s licence is preferred) and will need an original Driver Abstract Consent Form completed by you. They will also need to fill in the Driver Abstract Statement of Intent, so be sure to let the person coming in on your behalf know exactly which product you require.
If you are giving your consent to an organization with an AMVIR agreement, that organization will ask you to fill out a Consent form and they will keep this form on file.
The cost for all Driver Abstracts is $28.
