Motor Vehicle policy states that if a client speaks a language for which a knowledge test translated version is available, he or she will take the test on the computer using this translation. To request an exemption, clients must contact Alberta Transportation Driver Programs and Licensing Standards in writing.

If you speak a language which is not available on the test system, and if you do not read and write English adequately for the purpose of  taking a knowledge test, you may bring a translator who has been approved by Alberta Transportation and has a valid approval letter for Translator Identification Number. The translator must bring this letter and valid ID for himself/herself each time he or she visits the registry office.
